The 19th Annual Webby Awards

Last night, the 19th Annual Webby Awards celebrated and honored the best of the internet. It was a star-studded evening as internet sensations, like Ellie Kemper and Tinder, accepted awards and delivered five-word speeches. There was even an appearance by rock legend Dave Grohl who presented the Special Achievement Award to the team behind the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

At this point, I’m sure you’re asking yourself, “What does this have to do with Blue Acorn?” While I didn’t have the pleasure of attending the Webby Awards and mingling with the creators of Wired, I can sum up the reason for you in five words: immersive, intuitive, responsive, accessible, bellissimo!

These five words describe the eCommerce experience of our client, VIETRI, retailer of finely-crafted Italian homeware. Launched just a few months ago, VIETRI was selected as an honoree for Best Structure & Navigation for a mobile site in the 19th Annual Webby Awards, placing them in the top 20% of all work entered that exhibits remarkable achievement.

Blue Acorn designed VIETRI’s responsive website with mobile performance in mind. Before their redesign, VIETRI knew that a large percentage of their customers visited the site via mobile device or tablet. The site gracefully degrades and provides an easy-to-navigate and intuitive experience on smaller devices that resulted in higher mobile and tablet conversion rates. Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international award honoring excellence on the internet.
