The brand began in 1989 with the seed of an idea: comfort for all. Co-founders Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams are considered the masters of modern home furnishings. Together, they strategize with their in-house design team with the guiding principle of producing only furnishings they would want in their own homes.
Unexpected online growth led to the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams team to reevaluate their platform. The company’s ecommerce site was lagging behind their high-end, in-store experience. Flourishing sales that appeared without a significant investment got them thinking that a modern and scalable ecommerce solution would provide even better results and room to grow. First, they chose Blue Acorn as a systems integrator, due to a strong cultural fit, post-launch support model, and development expertise. Second, they chose to implement the new site on Salesforce Commerce Cloud for performance and scalability. They aimed to enhance the omnichannel sales experience and help their many customer types better understand their products without having to visit a store.
The Blue Acorn and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams teams collaborated during a two-day design workshop; together, they designed a UX that fulfilled a mutual vision, showcased the company’s appreciation for love and passion in design, and pushed the boundaries on Salesforce Commerce Cloud. Blue Acorn merged the in-store and online buying experiences for an experience that appealed to the company’s three user groups: individual customers, interior designers, and the in-store sales teams. Following launch, a poor user experience and messaging around their loyalty program was a drag on sales. In less than a month, Blue Acorn diagnosed and remediated UX issues with their loyalty program. All said and done, the new ecommerce site has delivered 37% more revenue than the previous year.
Conversations with customers and sales associates influenced the addition of new features and helped determine the functionality. Customers can, of course, order products online, or the product pages can be printed as spec sheets, a feature incorporated to appeal to designers.
